Uptown Lexington: home to more than 190 retail, service and professional businesses and community resources; host to the communities largest public events, activities and festivals; and recognized as the place where economic and tourism growth begins for the greater Lexington area.
The Uptown district boasts the city’s first National Register Historic District where the commercial center was built between the late 1890’s and 1935. Plans call for the renovation of Lexington’s oldest and most distinctive properties, one-by-one, for mixed-use development that encourages upper-story residential and office uses, with street level retail and restaurant uses. We’re re-creating an Uptown Center, Lexington’s neighborhood; where diverse individuals in our community continue to come together for a multitude of reasons: to live, work, learn, and play.
Uptown Lexington is one of the liveliest traditional business districts in the region, with a range of exciting stores for shopping, great old-time tastes in food, candy and coffee, and art to inspire all types of visions.
