Friends of Uptown LexingtonThe revitalization efforts in Uptown Lexington continue to bring positive results. Six new businesses have opened in the past fewr months and the overall appearance is improving. Uptown businesses are seeing more visitors as Lexington becomes a stronger destination stop along Interstate 85, adding to the growing number of attractions in Davidson County. We see great opportunities in the coming year and hope we can count on the support of our friends to make it happen. Uptown Lexington, Inc. is working to redevelop Lexington’s oldest and most important properties, one-by-one. Plans provide for mixed-use development with upper-story residential and office uses, along with street level retail and restaurant uses. Our Façade Improvement Grants have helped to fund new awings, upgraded windows, and improved signs on Uptown’s storefronts. We also have a fun side and have set the dates for a great time with this year’s Christmas Open House, along with Groundhawg’s Day and Summer Strolls for 2008. We are also excited as we anticipate the return of Pigs in the City, with litter Number 4, and all of the visitors they generate for Uptown. Pigs decorated by talented area artists promise to make our Uptown streets even more fun and attractive for everyone to visit and spend time among the businesses and institutions of the district. Special events are planned in honor of their return to our streets in 2008 and you can count on being part of the Premiere festivities as a Friend of Uptown Lexington. Uptown Lexington Inc. is a private non-profit corporation that depends on its friends to help make more improvements possible. Please take a moment to complete this form and return it to us with your tax deductible contribution. We are also looking for volunteers.
