Redevelopment Projects

The Main Street Streetscape Project

In 1997, Uptown Lexington, Inc., the City of Lexington, Davidson County, and about 200 of our closest public and private partners completed a $1.2 million streetscape redevelopment project. There were six components of the project:

  1. Burry the utility lines along six (6) blocks of Main Street (North to South), and ½ block along the side streets (East to West) and install new traffic signalization.
  2. Install historic style lighting fixture throughout the streetscape area to blend with architectural period of the Uptown district’s architecture.
  3. Replace the overgrown and damaged Bradford Pear trees with Lace Bark Elm trees along Main Street.
  4. Replace the decaying forty year old sidewalk wit a decorative concrete patterns along six blocks of Main Street.
  5. Improve landscaping at The Square
  6. Install street furnishings including benches, trashcans, banners, and Christmas decorations.
